It Isn’t Easy To Believe

Allison Nazarian Faith, Healing, Inspiration

It isn’t easy to believe.

In the face of disappointment or rejection or uncertainty. In the belly of a dry period or even at the height of the lowest low.

It isn’t easy to believe.

That it will get better, that this isn’t forever. That the bad things aren’t signs of more bad things to come. That it’s all for the better. That this isn’t forever, that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

It isn’t easy to believe.

Sure, there are glimmers of hope. The day or the hour or even the moment when it seems like everything will get better, can get better, wants to get better, must get better. You want to hold on to that sliver of light forever. But, then, a return. To the place where it doesn’t seem possible. Where your possibilities are anything but endless. Where you are fenced in by hopelessness. Where you see, feel, sense no space for what you long to believe in.

It isn’t easy to believe.

Others will tell you to hang in there. It will get better. They remind you to have faith. To breathe. To trust. You want them to be right. Oh, how you want them to be right.

It isn’t easy to believe.

The love you, they want to help. They want you to be happy. They believe. They want you to believe. You wish you knew how.

You’re too hard on yourself, they say. Look at how far you’ve already come, they remind you. Focus on the positive, they offer. You can change it, you can do it, go for it. They share whatever works. What they believe will work. They seem to believe.

It isn’t easy to believe.

Faith is belief in the unseen, in what is often unproven, maybe even impossible. Faith is nothing if not impossible.

It isn’t easy to believe. Sometimes it feels impossible.
