Those of you who have followed me for some time know that I talk a lot about developing, tweaking and closely following your marketing plan. You know the saying, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail? Well, it’s true.
But…(you knew there was a “but” here) sometimes you need to be open to new changes, emerging opportunities and the overall need to “chuck” the plan in favor of something else that may actually work better.
Going with the flow in marketing is about taking off the blinders that sometimes a plan – even and especially the best plans – can firmly place on you. Be open and aware of what’s out there and be nimble enough to change course and jump in when needed.
The best plans are those that take into account the inevitable changes, twists and turns along the way. I’ve learned (and it has taken me years) to embrace the totally unexpected and see (and seize) the opportunity each time.
You may very well get where you want and need to be following the plan to a “T,” but you will experience a different, new and probably more exciting journey when you mix in a little flexibility and curiosity. So remember your plan, have fun and seize the day — and build your business in amazingly new ways in the process.
